Mit seiner neuen CryEngine 3.0 bringt der deutsche Spielehersteller Crytek zum ersten mal eine Konsolenkonforme Engine auf den Markt und auch Crysis 2 wird neben dem PC auch für XBOX 360 und Playstation 3 erscheinen. Man orientiert sich hier hauptsächlich an den DirectX 9 Standards, betont aber die Erweiterbarkeit der Engine auf DX10 und DX11 auf dem PC.
Gamble betonte während eines Gesprächs, dass sich die nächste Konsolengeneration schon am neusten Standard DirectX11 orientieren wird.
Erste spezifikationen rund um eine mögliche Playstation 4 und XBOX 720 sollen bereits im nächsten Jahr feststehen und in Form von finaler Hardware schon Im Verlauf 2012/13 der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht werden.
